I was able to indicate 5 key words from reading this article. I wanted to base my design of a new faculty for the built environment on present / future architectural landscape.
With this in consideration, I want to include current characteristics the faculty has (eg. red bricking) to keep it well known. Another aspect that I intend to include are the self operated louvres at the red centre. I remember Dr Haeusler explaining to me that the louvres change according to the sun's rays. I will look to alter this by implementing a louvre design inspired by Chuck Hoberman.
The space requirements for this task has given me an opportunity to create a structure where all Built Environment services are in one building/structure. (Eg. Red Center + Fab Lab). This would help students save time walking and overall create a unified bond between Built Environment staff/students as everyone from the faculty is situated at one general area.
From this, reading the article allowed me to develop a approach in design a new faculty as well as allowing me to conclude with a theory of : Connection.

1 Sketchup Model that includes the two Moving Elements
My first moving element are these vertical louvres that will hang from the windows of my design structure. Inspired by chuck hoberman, I wanted these louvres to adapt to the sunlight. They can open up or close, depending on the power of the sun's rays.

My second moving element is the vertically placed louvres that can re position itself and form as an horizontal cover. As the sun peaks, most louvres don't have the ability to cover high sunlight. With this mechanic, the louvre from the vertical position can transition itself into a horizontal position, covering the sunlight.

Overall, I have created my interpretation of what I would like the Faculty of Built Environment Red Centre to appear as. My theory behind the design was to implement current characteristics of the red centre (red bricks, louvres) to keep it well known with the function of the building being connected. Through the bridge, escalators and elevators, I have touched on the present issues of the fab lab workshop and the red centre being separated as each space in my interpretation of the red centre links each facility without needing to exit the building.
